Most apps teach you the language of Rio de Janeiro. We built the app for the streets of Lisbon.
Our Story
It's a familiar story. You spend months on a popular green owl app. You feel confident. You land at Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon, walk to a taxi, and confidently say "Bom dia, você..."
The driver squints. He answers in English.
Why? Because you learned Brazilian Portuguese.
PortuTalk exists because European Portuguese is not just a "dialect", it's a different world.
- The vowels are "eaten" (stress-timed), not sung.
- The slang is different (Autocarro, not Ônibus).
- The culture is distinct (AIMA appointments, Santos Populares, and specific coffee rituals).
We couldn't find an app that treated Portugal as the main event. So, we built it.

We utilize advanced voice technology specifically tuned to the European Portuguese accent. This ensures you practice the correct "shushing" rhythm and closed vowels that define the Portugal sound, avoiding the confusion of Brazilian pronunciation.

PortuTalk is a passion project built by a developer who was simply trying to learn European Portuguese and couldn't find the right tools.
Frustrated by the sea of Brazilian Portuguese apps, I decided to build the solution I needed myself. I use cutting-edge language technology to structure these lessons, with the goal of bridging the gap for learners like me.
The Vision
As PortuTalk grows, the goal is to bring native speakers and educators onboard to further refine the experience. But for now, this is a tool built by a learner, for learners. We are on this journey to fluency together.
